Mame Bouna Basse Gueye Was born in Dakar in 1898, father Mamadou Kalla and mother Leissa N'Diaye. Mame Bouna started playing the drums at the early age of eight. He was the first drummer to be chosen by the French Colonizers to perform in Europe. In Senegal he was highly respected and was called to play numerous wedding ceremonies, baby naming ceremonies, healing ceremonies, as well as Senegal's political ceremonies. Mame Bouna was decorated from the 1st President of Senegal, Leopold Sedor Senghor, with the Medal of Merites. After which he received the honored title of Master Drummer. Bathe Gueweul Ndakarou.
